Police reviewing footage after disorder between fans

Police in Ballymena say they are hugely disappointed following the disorder involving a number of so-called fans after the quarterfinal match at the weekend.

Chief Inspector Stephen McCauley said: “Please be assured that we are reviewing all our footage from the policing operation and we are actively looking for those individuals who were involved in the trouble on Saturday.

“While the majority of fans from both Ballymena and Coleraine were well-behaved and only out to enjoy the football, there were a group who were intent on causing trouble and starting fights.”

Chief Inspector McCauley added: “This was really disappointing to see, especially with the launch last week of the #LoveYourClub campaign which both clubs are very supportive of and which called for fans to be positive and respectful.

“With another local derby scheduled for later this month I would reiterate the need for anyone planning to attend to ensure their behaviour doesn’t fall below the standard expected by the clubs they claim to support.”
