Police save man after attempted suicide in Central Craigavon

A man who appeared to be trying to hang himself on Sunday afternoon in the centre of Craigavon was saved by police, it has been revealed.

The Mail has learned the man attempted suicide in broad daylight at one of the black paths in the Craigavon area.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police in Craigavon were able to assist a distressed male on Sunday, September 15.”

Police said they received a call at 3.16pm reporting that a male was in a distressed state.

“Officers attempted to contact the male and conducted searches,” said the spokesperson.

“The male was located within the hour and was conscious and breathing,” said the PSNI.

“He was transferred to hospital for treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

The Mail understands the man was intoxicated at the time.

Over the past week, the PSNI have been highlighting the dangers of alcohol abuse.

Police worked with partner agencies to highlight and tackle the impact of excessive drinking in the district.
