Police seeking man who asked boy (13) if he 'wanted a sail'

POLICE in Ballymoney are keeping an open mind about an incident in Loughgiel in which a 13-year-old was asked by a motorist if he 'wanted a sail'.

The incident took place on Thursday night last at 8.30 p.m. and police have praised the teenager who rejected the offer and, instead, told his parents.

Inspector David Anderson said that the young lad was walking along the Lough Road when a red car stopped and the person driving asked him if he wanted a sail.

"The boy did the right thing and declined the offer. The motorist then drove off," Inspector Anderson said.

The man is thought to be in his 50's and may have been driving a red or maroon car, possibly a Toyota.

Inspector Anderson said if anyone in the area knows who this refers to could they get in contact with police on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555 111.

"We would like to clarify what happened. At present we are keeping an open mind," the Inspector said.

"We would urge young people not to go near the vehicle and speak to someone as quickly as possible alerting them of possible danger as well as calling the police.
