Police seize cannabis plants worth £35k

POLICE have vowed to continue their crackdown on drugs following the seizure of cannabis plants with an estimated street value in excess of £35,000 in Ballymoney.

Two properties in the Castle Street area of the town were raided on Friday night in an operation spearheaded by Local Neighbourhood Police officers.

Two men were arrested, aged 23 and 26, and were due to appear at court in Coleraine on Monday.

Mobile phones along with electrical equipment used in the ‘cannabis factory’ were also seized.

The men were charged with possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply; cultivation of a Class B drug; criminal damage and illegally extracting electricity.

Inspector David Anderson of Ballymoney PSNI welcomed the drugs find.

He said: “This was part of an ongoing investigation by the Local Neighbourhood Police. It was a significant seizure of illegal drugs and it demonstrates commitment on the part of the PSNI to take robust action against those who are involved in the illegal supply of drugs which destroy lives and communities.

“We will take every possible action to bring people involved with illegal drugs before the courts.

“We would ask for the continued support of the community by reporting any suspicious activity by providing useful information to Local Neighbourhood Officers or phone 08456008000 or the Crimestoppers number 0800555111.
