Police seize quantity of illegal drugs

Police officers in Newtownabbey seized a quantity of herbal cannabis during searches carried out over the last 24 hours.

It is understood that officers recovered a small amount of herbal cannabis during what they described as “an intelligence-led operation”. However, police have declined to say exactly where in the borough the drugs were seized.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Within the past 24 hours we have conducted searches by virtue of Section 23 of The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

“During these searches, a quantity of cannabis was located and seized. This has resulted in a quantity of illegal drugs being removed from circulation and three individuals being dealt with for possession offences.”

Police in Newtownabbey are appealing for anyone who is aware of drug dealing taking place in their local community to contact them on the non-emergency 101 number. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
