Police stations to be sold

TWO disused Londonderry police stations will be sold or transferred as they are deemed surplus to requirements by the PSNI.

Claudy and Donemana police stations are amongst a list of buildings identified as surplus by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the PSNI.

Justice Minister David Ford revealed the disposal plans in response to a Stormont question.

“Approval for disposal has been given by the Policing Board, and the disposal process, under agreed procedures, will proceed,” he stated.

In September the Sentinel revealed how Claudy, Donemana, Eglinton and Dungiven PSNI stations were costing a total of 114,489.07 to maintain despite the closure of the former two in August 2009.

The sale of portions of the PSNI estate on the open market in G District is not without precedent. The former PSNI station in the Rosemount area of Londonderry recently sold for approximately 250,000 and is currently under development by a contractor building houses on the land.
