Inspector Jon Burrows said: “It is very disappointing that young people are found in possession of strong alcohol. Police are committed to making sure young people are not getting mixed up with alcohol and will seize it if they are found drinking on the streets or public places. Alcohol affects everyone differently and even one can of beer or glass of vodka can leave young males or females vulnerable. The abuse of alcohol is also associated with anti-social behaviour and criminal damage and these are issues of concern the public have asked us to address.

“We would appeal to parents to talk to your children about the real dangers associated with alcohol and take all necessary steps to ensure your kids are not getting mixed up in behaviour that could see them brought home by police officers. Any young person found in possession of alcohol will be reported”

Police intend to carry out further similar operations throughout the summer and police have advised that anyone found selling alcohol to young people or buying it for them, will be prosecuted.
