Police to tackle poaching issue

Police in Ballycastle are working with DCAL Officers to tackle the issue of poaching in the area.

In recent operations nets, a car and a number of fish have been seized by the Rivers Agency.

Robust action will be taken against anyone caught committing this type of activity in the area, which may result in prosecution through the courts and may also lead to boats and private vehicles being seized.

Anyone who has any information regarding poaching in the area is asked to contact the police at Ballycastle on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.

Poaching is nothing new on rivers inNorth Antrim and recently the Times has learned that a local man discovered equipment hidden in shrubbery around the Margy river which he disposed of himself.

One angler commented: “It’ s hard enough trying to catch fish the legal way without people coming in and using foul methods.”
