Police turn up the heat on oil thieves

TWO vehicles were seized in separate incidents and one arrest was made by police in the Ballymoney area who are keen to turn the heat up on oil thieves.

The police action follows a number of thefts of oil and oil burning equipment.

Equipment, including pipes and fuel containers, were seized and police are trying to establish if there is a link with fuel thefts.

In one of the incidents the driver ran off but the vehicle was seized.

The police action comes at a time when there have been a number of local incidents.

A central heating boiler was stolen from a shed at Macfin Road near Ballymoney some time between Saturday January 16 and Monday January 18.

And a red coloured 'Riella' oil burner was stolen from Bellaghy Road near Dunloy some time over night on January 20/21.

Some time between January 20 and January 22, 200 litres of oil were stolen after a tank was tipped over onto its side to drain the oil out at Marina Park in the Garryduff Road area of Ballymoney.

And over night on January 21/22, 500 litres of oil were stolen from a house at Bush Road near Dervock.

Police are advising the public to secure tanks and to put on padlocks or install sensor lights to prevent oil tanks being tampered with.

They also want the public to keep an eye on the oil tanks of neighbours.
