Police want to question youths about Whiteabbey arson attack

Detectives investigating a suspected arson attack in Whiteabbey on Sunday, October 12 are keen to speak to a group of youths who were seen hanging around the area at the time of the incident.

One house was gutted and two others were damaged in the blaze at Glenview Crescent, which was reported shortly after 3am. There were no reports of any injuries.

“The fire is believed to have started in a shed in the garden and spread to oil tanks and the house,” Detective Inspector David Skelly explained. “The female occupant of the house had been woken and alerted to the blaze by a neighbour and had left the house uninjured. Substantial damage was caused to the house and neighbouring properties.”

He added: “Our enquiries are ongoing and we have received a report that a group of youths were in the area at around 3am and we would be keen to speak with any of these youths.

“I would also ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact CID in Newtownabbey on 101. Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
