Police warning about thefts from cars

Coleraine coast police are stressing the importance of locking parked cars following a number of thefts from cars in recent days.

The majority of these vehicles had been left unlocked in the Portrush and Portstewart areas.

Police beleive that an opportunistic thief has tried car handles and stolen cash and personal items that have been left inside. Five thefts from cars have been reported in recent days and police want the help of the community is making sure that the number does not rise.

Police say that always locking parked cars will frustrate thieves, who usually go for the easiest criminal option. Also, police advise that valuable items, like sat navs, phones or cash should never be left inside cars. Simple crime prevention measures such as these can have a positive impact on communities as a whole.
