He said: “During Tuesday afternoon and into the evening we received a number of reports of burglary and attempted burglary.

“An attempt was made to enter a house in Thornhill on Tuesday afternoon and entry was forced to homes in Linenhall Street, Ringsend Road, Ballynanny Road and Foxleigh Fields.

“A black BMW X6 was taken from a house in Ringsend Road and the other homes were searched with cash and other items stolen.

“We believe a number of these burglaries occurred during the afternoon and that burglars may have been disturbed in the house at Foxleigh Fields around 8pm.

“In each of these incidents entry was gained by breaking windows or locks.

“We are conducting house to house enquiries and further enquiries to try and identify those involved. I cannot stress how important information from the public is. We need you all to be ‘nosy neighbours’.

“If you notice something in your neighbourhood which does not look or feel right please phone us straight away. If you notice a suspicious vehicle, please note down the registration details and a brief description.

“The best thing you can do is to phone us immediately. We would rather check out a report that turns out to be innocent than miss an opportunity to prevent or detect a crime.

“I would ask anyone with information about these burglaries to contact us in Banbridge on 101.”

Anyone who may have information that will help the police with their investigations is asked to ring the charity number Crimestoppers which is 0800 555111.

Commenting on the break-ins, local MP David simposn, said, “In the last number of weeks I have been made aware of a spate of burglaries that have taken place across the Banbridge area.

“I will be seeking a meeting with the Banbridge PSNI at the earliest opportunity to see what more we can do as political representatives.

“In the mean time, I would urge home owners to be fully cautious of any suspicious behaviour and do not hesitate to contact the PSNI either directly or through myself.”
