Police warning after spate of thefts

COLERAINE police are stressing the importance of locking vehicles following a rash of thefts from cars in recent weeks.

Police have arrested one man in recent days in connection with theft from cars, but the crime prevention message remains important. The majority of these vehicles had been left unlocked in the Portstewart area.

So, police are calling on car owners to take simple crime prevention measures to avoid becoming the next victim of an opportunistic thief.

Police believe that over twenty separate incidents occurred in the Portstewart area over the last fortnight with items such as electronic tablets, cash and particularly sat navs taken from often unlocked cars. Owners are advised to always lock cars, even if parked outside your house and to never leave high value items inside vehicles for any length of time.

Police are advising the public to be wary of high value items like sat navs or electronic tablets being sold at knock down prices. If anyone has been offered items for sale or has any information on the thefts, please contact police.
