Mr Givan and Cllr Carson were commenting after local officers seized a quantity of Class A and Class B drugs during an operation on the outskirts of the city on Saturday evening, November 12.

Two men were arrested and later charged with a variety of offences, including possession of illegal drugs.

“The police must be commended for the action they have taken to intervene to halt the transportation of these illicit drugs. The arrest of two men should make it clear that the police are committed to eradicating this activity,” Mr Givan said.

Cllr Carson, who is a member of Lisburn and Castlereagh PCSP, added: “Any illegal drugs seizure should be welcomed and the police have once again demonstrated their commitment to ensure that those responsible for transporting drugs will be treated strictly.

“Time after time the message is being delivered about the ramifications of using and dealing in illegal drugs, however some remain intent on engaging in this. This is why the PCSP in Lisburn & Castlereagh have this issue as a priority for action in partnership with a number of other organisations.”
