Politicians voice support
for Jenny and John Palmer

Representatives of the Ulster Unionist Party and the TUV have voiced their support for Lisburn and Castlereagh City councillors Jenny and John Palmer, who resigned from the DUP this week.

“Jenny and John Palmer have shown great resilience through a very difficult time,” said UUP councillor Alexander Redpath.

“I cannot imagine the pressure they have been under since Jenny Palmer exposed the housing executive contract scandal.

“I hope it has been of some comfort that through out her ordeal she had right on her side and the support of the public at large.

“I wish Jenny and John well for their continued service on Lisburn and Castlereagh Council and for the time ahead.

“I think it is appalling that a dedicated councillor who sought to do the right thing in difficult circumstances has been penalised, whereas others have been promoted.”

TUV spokesperson Samuel Morrison said: “Tuesday night’s edition of Spotlight was a shocking indictment of the DUP, and particular local representatives in Lagan Valley, as Jenny Palmer expressed her disappointment at the failure of local DUP MLAs to back her.

“Throughout the last two years the integrity of Jenny Palmer has been clear for all to see.

“She is a councillor who evidently has a keen sense of public service and someone any party should be proud to have as a representative. However, it is obvious from the actions of the DUP, particularly when it came to the promotion of Stephen Brimstone, that for them loyalty to the party is more important than honesty and integrity.”
