Politicians welcome new Dromore Head

The DUP’s Lagan Valley MLA Brenda Hale and Dromore councillor, Alderman Paul Rankin, met the new principal to wish him well and pledge him their support as he took up the reins recently relinquished by his long-serving predecessor, John Wilkinson.

“Ian brings with him a record of experience after serving as principal of Omagh High School for four years,” said Mrs Hale.

“We will give him our support, as elected representatives, as he faces the challenges that lie ahead for Dromore High School, none moreso than the plans for the new school build.

“We have confidence in Ian that he can bring a renewed vision for Dromore High School and build upon the legacy of his predecessor John Wilkinson.

“We wish him well and look forward to working with him and his school leadership team and staff.”

Mr McConaghy himself welcomed the opportunity to meet with any and all local representatives, whose hard work in support of Dromore High School had already been of great benefit, he said, to pupils and staff. He added: “I know we will value their support moving forward into a very exciting phase of the school’s development as we endeavour to secure a new school building suitable for educating our pupils in the 21st century.

“We also want our new building to be able to make a positive contribution to the entire Dromore community.

“As a key part of that community we hope to contribute to the broader vision for the growing population in the Dromore area and along the A1 corridor, with the increasing demand for school places, and very much look forward to working with our local representatives and the entire community to bring about an enhanced future provision for all.”
