‘Action needed at blackspots’ - Thompson

ACTION is needed from Roads Service to prevent more car accidents at two locations in the Glens which have become “accident blackspots”, according to Independent councillor Colum Thompson.

Said Cllr Thompson: “Over the past year there have been a series of crashes outside Tavnaghan Terrace and at Gaults Road Bridge in Cushendall. The houses at Tavnaghan Terrace sit right beside the road and several young children live in the area.

“There have been four crashes recently in the area and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed. I will be writing to the Roads Service asking for a 30mph speed limit to be introduced along the Terrace in an effort to eradicate these crashes.

“The situation at the Bridge on Gaults Road is also a cause for concern, there are dangerous corners at both sides of the bridge that drivers, especially those not familiar with the road, often don’t account for and end up in an accident.

“I was contacted by a farmer in the area who told me he has had to repair his fences six times in the space of eighteen months because cars had crashed through them. I will be writing to ask the Roads Service to upgrade their warning signage around Gaults Road Bridge in an effort to stop these accidents.

“If anyone is concerned about road safety in their area please feel free to contact me by phone 07541115105 or by e-mail [email protected]
