Ballycastle needs hotels says McShane

THE Chairperson of Moyle District Council, Independent councillor Padraig McShane, says he would like to see the Marine Hotel re-established as quickly as possible but also believes there is scope for another hotel in the town.

He was speaking at a meeting of Moyle Council where it was agreed to write to the Marine Hotel administration team asking for quicker action.

Cllr McShane said the Marine Hotel is a “focal point” at the seafront and he said he would like to see it re-open and planning permission given for another hotel in the area.

Plans have been put forward for a hotel in the Clare Road area of Ballycastle.

Sinn Fein councillor Cara McShane said it would be fantastic to see hotel projects begin as it would provide many jobs, not least in construction.

Cllr Robert McIlroy (DUP) said plans for a hotel in Bushmills have still not come to fruition after several years.

Council Vice-Chair, Cllr Sanda Hunter (Ulster Unionist), said at the Marconi Festival in Ballycastle it was “terrible” to see the Marine vacant and many people would have liked to have gone in for a cup of tea.
