Cllr Eóin Tennyson said: “Food banks are at the heart of the community response to Covid-19 and have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand over recent weeks.

“They have worked tirelessly alongside Council, statutory agencies and community volunteers to support the most vulnerable and ensure that no one is left behind. The very least we can do as a Council is play our part by making a contribution to support their incredible work.

“I have raised with council officers on a number of occasions the need for a comprehensive package of financial support for food banks to ensure that they can continue to meet demand. This can be achieved by repurposing funding from cancelled events and redirecting a number of existing funding streams. I will continue to push for progress.”
