Additional £95k Covid fund support for Antrim and Newtownabbey

Antrim and Newtownabbey is to receive an additional £95,531 from the Covid-19 Community Support Fund.

DUP Councillor Stephen Ross proposed the council accepts the sum from Department for Communities (DfC) at a meeting of the Community Planning Committee on Monday evening.

Cllr Ross commented: “I am glad to see DfC are paying their just debts.”

His proposal was seconded by Dunsilly Alliance Cllr Glenn Finlay who said: “I am very happy and grateful to second that.”

Officers will now develop a delivery plan for this fund to be distributed.

Previously, the local authority received £69,450 from DfC to support communities during the Covid pandemic. Read here.

Council officer Nick Harkness, director of Community Planning, reported that further funds are due to be released to address food poverty, of which, the council should receive approximately £180,000.
