The idea is to train up young people to assist qualified instructors in mountaineering, canoeing, sailing, hill walking. etc and to gain a qualification as well. The course will involve six weekends and a final Easter assessment, over the next eight months, at a cost of £35 per person and would be ideal preparation for Duke of Edinburgh participants.

Top award for Kenny

Congratulations go to Captain Kenneth Vennard (7th Portadown Boys Brigade) on winning the UTV sponsored Pride of Britain (Northern Ireland heat). The popular Edenderry Methodist BB leader has missed only one night in 60 years service to the BB and his unit are regular participants in the Lurgan BBOB FC organized Upper Bann BB Soccer Sevens football league based at Lurgan Town Arena.

SELB booklet

All BB captains and secretaries will have received the latest training course details regarding topics such as first aid (November 17), child protection, youth leader skills, community relations, disability awareness, inclusive games and much more. All staff are encouraged to avail of these important training modules and to register as soon as possible.

Get that permit

Apparently all minibuses used for voluntary work (including churches and their organisations) should hold and display a Section 10B permit. This authorises voluntary transportation within Northern Ireland and these can be obtained from each churches own headquarters or from the Community Transport Association, Belfast, which also provides regular health and safety training.
