Carrickfergus sea swimmers have ‘safer’ access to shore after steps are repaired

Work to repair railings and steps at Rhanbuoy, Carrickfergus, has been welcomed locally.

It follows correspondence between Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs and Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in response to residents’ concerns.

In a statement, Mr Beggs said: “I was contacted by concerned constituents to highlight the dilapidated state of disrepair of the steps and railings at Rhanbuoy, Carrickfergus.

“My constituents use this area to access the Belfast Lough for cold water sea swimming and I contacted council to outline health and safety concerns as a result of a lack of maintenance in this area.

“I am pleased that council have now completed the required repair work and in the process they have made the area safer for all.

“Thank you to the council staff for their speedy repair work.”
