Council pledges improvements to popular Duncan’s Dam area
Lisburn and Castlereagh City Councillor Nicola Parker has been engaging with council officers to address concerns raised by local residents about Duncan’s Dam.
The area, which used to supply water for Lisburn, includes walking trails and a play park. It is popular with local residents but there have been concerns about the upkeep of the area.
"I love Duncan’s Dam and the tranquility it provides,” said Councillor Parker.
"I have been working with council on several issues over the past number of months.

"Fouling is an ongoing issue and following my request, council will be installing a dog poo bag dispenser.
"The play park is definitely in need of some TLC. Council are working on a play park strategy to update our play parks but in the meantime have agreed to clean and spruce up the existing park in Duncan’s Dam.
"A contractor is onsite clearing the water of any debris. Although there was some rubbish, a lot of the debris is natural vegetation that has blown in following our undesirable weather. There is also some fishing tackle in and around the water, this will also be removed.
"There have been several reports of uncontrolled dogs off the lead, and chasing wildlife.
"We currently have no control orders in place in the park, however animal owners are required by law to keep their dogs under control, chasing the wildlife would not be deemed to be under control.
"Our dog wardens will get extra patrols logged for the area and increase their presence to try and alleviate these issues.”
