Green light given for new HGV transport hub in Lisburn

Kelly European Freight Service is to develop a major transport hub at the Lissue Road in Lisburn amid councillors’ concerns on the impact of the fuel crisis caused by the war in the Middle East.

Councillor Pat Catney said: "This is a huge leap going forward with the price increases at the moment involving the turmoil in the Middle East.

“I wish them all the best.”

An agent for the applicant John McElroy said: "There will be room to expand up to a further 20 vehicles and 15 more staff in the next number of years.”

Councillor Jonathan Craig added: “I would have some general road safety issues around a low bridge on the Lissue Road in terms of a health and safety issue for the drivers. “Otherwise this is an incredibly good thing for Lisburn. “However, with the cost of fuel doubling in recent weeks it is sad for haulage companies where we are now in world politics.”
