Mayor pays tribute to Lyra McKee on second anniversay of her death

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston has paid tribute to Lyra McKee to mark the second anniversary of the 29-year-old journalist’s death.

Ms McKee was shot dead on April 18, 2019 while observing rioting in the Creggan area of Londonderry.

Cllr Johnston said: “It is hard to believe that this Sunday will mark two years since this terrible act was carried out.

“Her death has been felt by many right across the world and I feel it’s important that we pay tribute to Lyra as her second anniversary approaches.

“Ms McKee was an extremely positive person. She did not care about colour nor creed, she just wanted a better future for us all and so I would like to ask you all to take a moment to reflect as Lyra’s partner, family and friends prepare to celebrate her life and all that she stood for.
