The scheme has been developed in response to the Covid-19 pandemic by the borough council and the Northern Healthy Lifestyles Partnership, funded by the Northern Health & Social Care Trust and the Public Health Agency, supported by Henderson Retail.

Households identified by the council through the Community Hub to benefit will receive a kit which will include a slow cooker, recipe book, box of non-perishable food, chopping board and ingredients for two meals.

It is hoped that this will provide a “more sustainable option” for “shielding” residents.

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Maureen Morrow, said: “This fantastic new scheme is perfect for those vulnerable people who are self-isolating but still want to prepare healthy, nutritious meals for their family.”

The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Beth Adger, said: “The council is committed to supporting people through these unprecedented challenges and we’ll do everything in our power to help.

“We’ve already been delivering thousands of food parcels across the borough to those in our care and families who are struggling to cope.
