Mid Ulster District Council has confirmed it has removed a Union Flag that was flying from its Dungannon offices on Tuesday  evening (April 13).

The erection of the flag, at what appeared to be half-mast,  follows Council’s decision not to fly the Union Flag as a mark of respect for HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.

A spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council has previously confirmed the organisation will not be flying the Union Flag at half mast as Council has ‘no flags’ policy – a decision both unionist parties in the chamber strongly disagree with.

DUP Councillor Clement Cuthbertson has warned this decision could “do irreparable damage to fragile good relations across the district”.

When asked if Council was aware of the flag flying outside its Dungannon offices and if the the incident would be reported to the PSNI, a spokesperson for Council confirmed the flag has now been removed.

“We are aware of this and the flag was removed from Council property this morning [Wednesday, April 14],” said the spokesperson.
