On Wednesday, December 9, Council confirmed its acting Chief Executive and Director of Business and Communities, Adrian McCreesh would take on the role as head of Council’s paid staff on a permanent basis.

Speaking at the first public meeting of Council since the news was made public, the Chair of Council’s development committee, Councillor John McNamee congratulated the new Chief Executive.

“I have been working with Adrian since 1997,” said Cllr McNamee. “We all know the hard work he puts in, both on the legacy council and on this council.

“And we can see the dividends of this effort. It is fair to say staff and members hold you in the highest regard.

“Very well done Adrian and we look forward to working with you in your new role.”

Councillor Martin Kearney also extended his best wishes to Mr McCreesh.

“I want to congratulate him on his appointment,” said the SDLP representative.

“He has helped guide Mid Ulster through its formative years and now has the chance to lead from the front.

“Good luck Adrian, we wish you all the best.”

Independent councillor Barry Monteith said he was looking forward to working further with Mr McCreesh, and Councillor Dan Kerr said Mr McCreesh was “very passionate about trying to help” and wished him all the best in his new role.

DUP councillor Kyle Black passed on his party’s congratulations.

“I want to pass on mine and my party’s congratulations,” said Cllr Black. “I am looking forward to continuing to work for you and just to pick up on what Cllr Kerr said, your passion for Mid Ulster really does shine through.”

Ulster Unionist group leader, Councillor Walter Cuddy echoed the congratulations and noted Mr McCreesh spent some of his early career in Dungannon.

“I think Adrian started off in Dungannon so we can maybe claim some credit for some of his career,” said Cllr Cuddy.

“He is a very approachable officer and has always been and we hope to carry on the good work working with him and others to move this council on.

“Congratulations Adrian, all the very best and hopefully we will be able to make this place better over the next four years.”

Speaking about his appointment, Mr McCreesh said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as Chief Executive and look forward to taking up my position and embracing the challenges and the very great opportunities which we have ahead.

“I’m passionate about this place and its people, as anyone who knows me will tell you, so this is a personal as well as a professional privilege for me.

“I look forward to what lies ahead and working with our elected members and staff to continue to assure Mid Ulster’s reputation for high quality services and outstanding facilities, for investment and for innovation, and crucially, to ensure our partnerships and collaborative working across the public, private, community and voluntary sectors thrive.”
