Public consultation planned to address parking issues in Lambeg
Lisburn councillor Nicola Parker has welcomed news that Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council is to carry out a public consultation to assess the need for off street parking at Lambeg Play Park.
Local residents, visitors, and motorists have complained about the lack of parking in the area, with concerns raised over cars causing an obstruction on the busy road.
"We've met with residents, engaged with the PSNI, DfI and Council officers, and pushed for solutions including additional restrictions, bollards, planters and increased enforcement,” explained Ms Parker.
"While not every request was approved, we have continued to make the case for local residents and safer streets.

"That's why we welcome the decision to move forward with public consultation on proposals for new off-street parking at Lambeg Play Area.”
Following ongoing concerns being raised by Ms Parker regarding parking pressures and traffic safety on Station Road, a feasibility study has been undertaken to explore potential solutions.
"The study identified several key issues, including residents being unable to park near their homes due to visitors to the play area and nearby amenities, congestion and obstruction caused by parking along Lambeg Road, particularly at the junction with Station Road, and safety concerns for pedestrians, including those with prams and wheelchairs, who are often forced onto the road due to inappropriate pavement parking,” continued Ms Parker.
“To help address these issues, the study proposes the creation of an off-street car park within the Lambeg Play Area site, fronting onto Station Road.
"The proposal includes 13 parking spaces in total: eight standard spaces (including provision for electric vehicles), three family spaces, and two disabled spaces.
"Initial discussions with the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) Roads have been positive, with an indication that they would be supportive of the proposal and would adopt and maintain the parking area upon completion.”
Ms Parker encouraged members of the public to make their views known on the parking proposals.
"This is an important step towards easing parking pressures, improving road safety and supporting our local community,” she added.
"We encourage everyone to take part in the consultation when it opens and make their voice heard.”
