Speculation mounts that son of former UUP Leader will not seek re-election for Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council

Speculation is mounting that the UUP could be set to lose a high profile Lisburn councillor, the son of its former leader David Trimble.

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council elected member Nicholas Trimble is a former group leader for the UUP and has served as Mayor of the City.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service contacted Councillor Trimble and put the question to him, if there was any truth to him not running for election the next term in May 2027.

Councillor Trimble replied: “I don’t think I will comment on that at this stage.”

On the council’s register of interests, Councillor Trimble is noted as employed as an Assembly Policy Research Officer for Robbie Butler MLA.
