Bringing the naming application to the committee’s attention, Council’s head of building control, Tom Lavery, acknowledged it was an “unusual” application but explained the decision still required members’ approval.

Members were made aware a request had been made to name a spine road of a development off the Lisnisky Road, ‘Bracken Road’.

The applicant has proposed three names for the spine road: Bracken Road; Bracken Avenue and Bracken Way.

The report on the matter explained the applicant’s preference is Bracken Road as two developments in the immediate vicinity are named Bracken Lodge and Bracken Hall and the name Bracken is now associated with the general location.

The applicant has also sought approval to name a 31 dwelling development in the area Bracken Meadows and the reason for this name is so it continues the naming theme already established in the area.

Councillor Sam Nicholson proposed the applicant’s preference in relation to the name of both the spine road and the development were accepted.

The proposal was seconded by Councillor Declan McAlinden and the committee voiced its approval.
