Waringstown man vies to win worst dressed dad title

55-year-old Bryan is a finalist in a nationwide search to find Britain’s least fashion-savvy dad.

‘Dob in your Dad’ is a national competition run by Specsavers, the winner of which will receive a makeover worth £500 and a Caribbean holiday for his family.

Nominated by daughter Vania, Bryan was chosen thanks to his dodgy dress sense.

Vania claims he wears the same clothes he wore in his thirties, meaning he has outfits in his wardrobe which are potentially well over twenty years old.

Bryan says: “Despite what Vania says, I think I have okay fashion sense. I may not be the trendiest dad on the block but I’m certainly not the worst dressed.

“I think I dress just fine for my age. Yes, I do admit that I have some items of clothing which are a few years old, but they’ve certainly stood the test of time and I’m quite emotionally attached to some of my clothing.

“I was always told to get the life out of things so they won’t be going anywhere soon.”

Bryan has been involved in missionary work since 1977 through two churches - Fermanagh Church of Ireland and Lisburn Christian Fellowship.

He met his wife Amaralis, who is from the Dominican Republic, when he was on a mission in the Caribbean.

They have been married for 22 years and have three children Alexandra (20), Jessica (19) and Vania (16), who attends Lurgan College.

The family have been living in Waringstown since 2008.

Bryan is now in the frame to receive a top makeover and a five-star family holiday to Saint Lucia.

He and his family will also be invited to the celebrity-studded Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards at London’s iconic Battersea Power Station in October to be presented with a special Designer Dad of the Year award by celebrity dad Jeff Brazier.

The competition follows news that dads’ crimes against fashion leave teenagers in Northern Ireland cringing, with bad hairdos, dodgy specs and Simon Cowell waistlines named as the main offenders.

More than 28% of Northern Ireland youngsters find their dad unfashionable, with nearly 30% of children surveyed reckoning that the celeb dad that best resembled their own was Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson – known for his double denim disasters and unruly mop of hair.
