Cuts will lead to job losses

Speaking during a door-to-door canvas in the town he said that projections in a recent NICVA report showed that Moyle will be hit worse than most parts of the north.

He said: “Moyle will be one of the areas worst affected by the introduction of the Welfare cuts that the Tory government are proposing. People on low incomes such as those affected tend to spend what they receive on day to day essentials and goods rather than putting money by to save.

“Therefore it is quite clear that an removal of this spending power from those who are the worst off in the community will have a impact on towns and it also means that there will be less turnover to sustain jobs. I am especially concerned at the impact that this would have on Ballycastle as analysis shows that the loss would represent £690 per working age adult per annum.

“To give you some perspective the Tory cuts would only result in £180 being lost to working age adults in the City of London. Everybody needs to wake up to the impact that this could have on their family and their household. The Tory targets include child benefit, family tax credits, the terminally ill working families and the disabled.

“Sinn Féin will continue to fight these proposals as we recognise the devastating impact that they will have on families.
