Disparity incommunity funding in NW

THERE are sharp differences in the amount of neighbourhood renewal funding allocated per capita to different areas across Londonderry and the North West, it has been revealed.

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has revealed that £313.31 per person was poured into the Triax area which covers the Fountain, Bogside, Brandywell, Creggan and Bishop Street but only £56.59 was allocated per person to the Outer North area, which includes the Greater Shantallow area.

Outer West, which stretches from Rosemount to Hazelbank and Ballymagroarty, also received only £70.52 per person last year.

And Strabane was also allocated less than the overall North West Development Office (NWDO) average of £159.60 per person, receiving just £105.72.

Although, Limavady (£196.92 per person) and Waterside - covering Caw, Irish Street, Tullyally, Currynierin and Top of the Hill - (£171.22 per person) also got a better than average allocation.

Mr McCausland revealed the expenditure in response to an Assembly Question from SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood who asked him to detail the level of funding allocated to each Neighbourhood Renewal area in the 2011/12 financial year.
