Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “Lurgan since Easter has been draped in green, white and orange around the town centre and main arterial routes.

“This has undoubtedly increased tensions within the unionist community and we would call on Sinn Fein and the SDLP who do not shy away from attacking our community on the flying of the Union flag to demonstrate real leadership in calling for the flags to be removed immediately.”

Regarding flying of the Union flag Councillor Lockhart added: “We support the flying of the Union flag in a dignified manner and to that end we are continuing our work within Council to have our flag flown 365 days from our civic building and town centre flag poles.”
