Election: Lockhart tops the poll in Lurgan

Carla Lockhart has topped the poll in Lurgan with the results of the first preference count announced.

She was the runaway leader with 2,013 votes - with the quota for election set at 1,438.

Her next closest competitor was Sinn Fein’s Maire Cairns on 1,002 first preferences.

Next in the rankings were Keith William Haughian (SF) on 930 votes and Colin McCusker on 903.

Cllr Lockhart’s running mate Phil Moutray received 503 first preference votes.

The SDLP fielded three candidates with top performer Joe Nelson on 839 first preference votes.

There was a total of 11,735 votes cast (11,562 valid) with a turnout of 48.99 per cent.

The count is now entering the next stage to see who will be joining Cllr Lockhart with six seats remaining to be decided among 16 candidates.
