Beating NI21’s Christina Dobson to the last of the five seats, newcomer Mr McIntyre joins the DUP’s Luke Poots, Uel Mackin and Janet Gray and the UUP’s James Baird.

The race for the last seat was a close-run thing, with Ms Dobson in real contention to become NI21’s one and only elected councillor. Neither candidate met the 1,000 vote quota, Mr McIntyre securing election, after transfers, with 880.88 votes against Ms Dobson’s 860.48.

Of the seats determined at today’s count, 11 have gone to the DUP, five to the UUP, one to the TUV, one to the SDLP and three to Alliance.

Tomorrow sees counting begin in the remaining three Lisburn and Castlereagh DEAs - Lisburn North, Lisburn South and Castlereagh South
