SDLP Mid Ulster MLA Patsy McGlone has asked the Minister for Communities Paul Givan when the one per cent pay increase will be implemented adding that Libraries NI workers have yet to be told.

Mr McGlone pointed out, “Library staff should have seen this modest increase in their pay earlier this year, but we are now into December the promised pay increase has yet to materialise.

“As with the long-delayed pay increase for Health and Social Care workers, the Minister responsible has yet to allocate the necessary funds.

“It is time for the Minister for Communities to move on this issue and urgently progress the agreed pay increase for library staff. That is why I have tabled this priority question.”

Mr McGlone said the SDLP would continue to lobby the government at Stormont to implement agreed pay increases within a more reasonable time-frame.

Mr Givan said his officials are pressing the Department of Finance to progress the matter as an urgent priority.
