Local crime concerns raised

A DELEGATION from the DUP recently met with the PSNI in Banbridge to discuss a number of policing issues in the area.

The delegation comprised MP David Simpson, MLA Sydney Anderson and councillors Jim McElroy and Junior McCrum.

Speaking afterwards David Simpson MP said, “This was a useful and welcome opportunity to meet with the PSNI locally to discuss concerns raised with us by local residents around issues such as anti-social behaviour and the damage of vehicles.

“We also discussed CCTV coverage in Banbridge Town and hotspot areas of concern at night-time and weekends.

“We took the opportunity also to discuss the security situation and threat levels from terrorist groups in the District currently. We reiterated the DUP’s support for strong security measures against such people. It is vital that everything possible is done to tackle the threat posed by those who would seek to take Northern Ireland backwards. And we would renew our appeal to anyone with any information about this kind of activity to take it immediately to the police.

“This was a very useful meeting and it is hoped we can follow it up with further meetings in the near future.”
