Local tenants in need of help: Storey

North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has called on Environment Minister Alex Atwood to look again at the difficulties faced by tenants in houses where management companies have collapsed and the property has been placed into the hands of a receiver.

Pressing the Minister during Oral Question time at the NI Assembly Mervyn Storey said: “There are people in all of our constituencies, who are in homes that they want to keep living in, but other properties have gone under the ownership of the receiver, and the management company has collapsed. Will the Minister look at that issue again and see what can be done to address what is now a serious problem in respect of management companies?”

Speaking afterwards Mervyn Storey said: “Responding to my call at the Assembly the Minister agreed with my concerns and indicated that he will put this onto the agenda. The Minister accepted that this is a real problem given the growth in apartment developments in Northern Ireland.

“I am aware on constituents who have been placed in this position and it is one that can bring a lot of stress and uncertainty about the future with it.

“We need clear action on this to resolve the problems faced by tenants who have done nothing wrong.”
