Ms Sugden said the event, which featured traditional music, dance and dress, underlined the importance of the contribution the Indian community had made in her East Londonderry constituency and across the whole of the country.

“Events like this celebrate our differences but emphasise our commonalities – they show us that we become far richer as a society when we come together and learn more about

one another,” said Ms Sugden.

“They also show how far Northern Ireland has come as a society – how multicultural and how welcoming a place it is considered. I have maintained strong connections with the Indian community on the north coast, but also in Belfast and beyond. I would like to thank them for their continued and hugely valued contribution to Northern Irish society and I look forward to meeting with them again soon.”
