New chair feels ‘honoured’

The new chairman of Banbridge District Council Councillor Olive Mercer thanked her colleagues for giving her the opportunity.

She said: “I fully understand the honour you have given me and the responsibilities bestowed.”

She was welcomed to the chair by Councillors David Herron, Sheila McQuaid, Marie Hamilton, Brendan Curran and Joan Baird.

Cllr Baird thanked Mrs Mercer for letting the UUP put her nme forward.

The outgoing vice chair - Elizabeth Ingram - thanked councillors and staff for their help during the year and wished her successor every success.

Taking the vice chair was Cllr Hazel Gamble who thanked the council for their support.
