New Mid Ulster Council Chair calls for 'show of solidarity' with those who suffer from racism

The new Sinn Féin Chair of Mid Ulster Council says it is important to show solidarity with all those who continue to suffer from racism.

Councillor Cathal Mallaghan said he has asked officers in the council to come up with a way the public can express their condolences for George Floyd and his family and friends "following his horrific murder in Minneapolis."

In a Facebook post he wrote: "It is important that we as a society have the opportunity to express our sympathy and our anger at the way he was treated at the hands of law enforcement.

"Many people have contacted me asking how we can show solidarity with all those who continue to suffer from racism. We will find a way to do this virtually so we can all adhere to social distancing guidelines."
