Results as they happen from Mid and East Antrim Council count

Counting of votes for the new Mid and East Antrim supercouncil is well underway at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre in Ballymena.

A total of 82 candidates are contesting 40 seats in the new authority formed by amalgamating the Larne, Carrickfergus and Ballymena council areas.

Times reporters are at the counting centre and will bring you all the results here, as and when they are announced.

17.40 PUP candidate Jonathan Cooke with 261 votes eliminated at second stage in Carrick Castle.

17.05 Carrick Castle DEA first count - Independent candidates Nick Wady and John Cameron are eliminated. Current Deputy Mayor John Stewart (UUP) topped the poll with 939 votes, just shy of the quota (971). Jim Brown has the second highest number of votes in the DEA with 882, while DUP’s Billy Ashe and UKIP’s Noel Jordan tie for third highest number of votes with 749.

16.51 BNP candidate Stephen Paul Moore with 73 votes eliminated after second count in Coast Road.

16.05 Current Larne Mayor Maureen Morrow has been elected in Coast Road with 946 first preference votes (quota of 898).

14.28 Overall turnout for the Mid and East Antrim Council area is 47.9 percent.

14:00 Verification has been completed for all seven District Electoral Areas. Turnouts in Larne and Carrick include: Carrick Castle - 45.76 percent; Coast Road - 43.8 percent; Knockagh - 47 percent; Larne Lough 44.9. It is expected that the first count will begin shortly.
