Roads Service updates traders on resurfacing work at Scarva Road

The works, which were due to commence from Monday August 1 for a period of three weeks, had raised a number of issues.

Scarva Street traders who had earlier contacted the Ulster Unionist representative with concerns regarding how these works would affect their businesses attended the meeting, represented by Mr Brian Campbell of Campbells Centra.

Arnold Hamilton, DRD Network Maintenance Manager; Nigel Burden, DRD Section Engineer; and Donald Moneypenny, DRD Roads Consultancy Engineer updated Mrs Dobson and Mr Campbell on their detailed plans which are largely based around working in the evenings and at the weekend to mitigate against adversely affecting local residents and traders.

Commenting after the meeting, which took place last Friday in Mrs Dobson’s new Rathfriland Street Constituency Office, the UUP MLA said, “I would like to thank Arnold, Nigel and Donald for taking the time to come and meet with myself and Brian regarding this issue.

“I note that Roads Service have pledged to maintain access to private residences and businesses throughout the works period and hope that the meeting has helped to allay many of the traders’ concerns.

“I know that Roads Service will make every effort to work alongside local residents and businesses throughout the three week period and trust that the works will be carried out to the planned schedule.”
