Sports teams are congratulated for sporting successes

Sports teams in various areas of Craigavon were congratulated at the borough council on their successes over the past couple of weeks.

The opening shot came from Alderman Stephen Moutray who praised Waringstown Cricket Club for “yet again” winning the NCU (Northern Cricket Union) Challenge Cup by beating Instonians in the final. “It hasn’t been a great season for them in the league, but again they’ve shown their mettle by winning the top knock-out competition,” he added.

“Lurgan and Waringstown are dominant in cricket. It’s sad to see Portadown dropping out of their league recently, but they’re the better area in the football sense.”

The County Armagh junior and senior sides in the football Milk Cup were praised following their historic win over Liverpool. The main praise came from Alderman Gladys McCullough, whose grandson Luke McCullough made the Northern Ireland squad.

Councillor Ronnie Harkness also paid tribute to the McCullough family.
