Ilex’s Chair Philip Flynn said: “The city’s primary asset is its young people and our future competitive position will be defined by their abilities in digital media.

“A 2013 Europe-wide survey on ICT in Education identified the critical importance of balancing formal learning in school, with informal learning at home, to prepare young people for the rapidly changing digital workplace.

“In fact, this report suggests that in some European countries, students’ digital media skills far exceed those of their teachers.

“We are delighted that over 3,000 young people to date have completed the digital survey, and first results show that 97 per cent of respondents have internet access at home.

“Ilex will now work alongside local schools to extend home e-learning, upskill our young people and enhance our digital skill base.”
