East Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA Roy Beggs has written to the department with a view to having traffic lights provided at the junction ahead of an expected increase in traffic once the new Park and Ride site is complete at the nearby train station.
Mr Beggs, who is also his party’s transport spokesperson, said: “The additional park and ride provision at Trooperslane is welcome and I look forward to the site opening for public transport users on the Larne Line. At peak times, this could mean that there is additional traffic congestion at the top of Trooperslane, which does not currently have traffic lights to provide access to the B90.
“I have tabled questions to Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon to ask what road safety assessments her department has undertaken at the junction of the B90 Top Road with Trooperslane.
“Furthermore, I have asked the minister what consideration has been given to providing traffic lights at the top of the Trooperslane Road, to promote free flowing traffic once the Park and Ride facility has been completed.”
