TUV field four candidates in Lisburn

Standing for the party are Andrew Moore in Lisburn South, John McCall in Lisburn North, Jonny Millar in Downshire West and Tom Mateer in Downshire East.

Jonny Miller is a 26 year old father of two who is employed in the building supply business.

Educated in Largymore Primary School and Laurelhill Community College Jonny has deep roots in the local community a and desire to see the services we receive from council improve. Jonny is a member of LOL 1925.

Andrew Moore was educated at Hilden Integrated Primary School and Fort Hill Integrated College. Passionate about his culture Andrew is a member of Lisburn Guiding Star Flute Band.

John McCall was educated at Brookfield Primary School, Dunmurry High and Lisburn College. Like Jonny and Andrew, he has lived in Lisburn his entire life.

John has served his country as a member of the Royal Engineers and is a member of the Orange Order.

With a keen interest in sport and fitness John came second in the Northern Ireland Powerlifting Federation competition last year.

Completing the Lisburn line up is Tom Mateer.

Tom was born and educated in Lisburn attending Lambeg and Central Primary Schools, Lisnagarvey High School and Lisburn Institute of Further Education. A retired sales executive Tom has a keen interest in antiques and is an animal lover.

Formally a member of the Ulster Unionist Party Tom joined TUV because he was impressed by Jim Allister’s record of delivery in Stormont.

Commenting on the election in a joint statement the candidates said: “TUV will be fighting this election on the big Province wide issues. A vote for us sends a clear message that, in the wake of the On the Runs scandal, there can be no more concessions to Republicans. Peter Robinson said he would resign unless the letters issued to suspected Republican terrorists were called in and the names of those who received them were published. He got none of that and yet continues his partnership with Martin McGuinness.

“But TUV is mindful of local issues too. People still recall the efforts which were made to force Unionists to accept an IRA Shrine on the outskirts of Lisburn. The DUP locally were the biggest cheerleaders for this project. TUV is proud that as a result of our campaign alongside innocent victims, the Orange Order and other Unionists we forced a u-turn on this issue. A strong vote for TUV is the Unionist community’s best insurance policy that there will be no backsliding on this issue.

“We will also fight this election on a platform of opposition to the cuts in the health service and particularly the rundown of Lagan Valley Hospital. Since 2007 Lagan Valley Hospital has lost over 1/3 of its beds and we now only have a part-time A and E department. This simply isn’t good enough. We will be making the point on the doorsteps that the ‘Poots Cuts’ have to stop.

“Finally, TUV will be fighting for the regeneration of Lisburn city centre. For too long it has been neglected and overlooked. A strong TUV performance will send a message that this is unacceptable.”
