A resident had reported a film of oil-like substance over the surface of the pond which he believed could be harmful to wildlife and dangerous for children in the nearby play area.

Councillor John Hanna visited the pond and said he believed it was nothing to signify a bigger problem and appeared to be natural oil.

The Council’s Technical Services Department have since carried out investigations and concurred with councillor Hanna.

A council statement said: “The Technical Services Department have investigated the pond and have deducted that the spillage is not oil but rather is a naturally occurring residue from the stagnant water and pond life due to the recent reduced levels of rainfall which would normally be dispersed.

“Technical services do not believe this would pose a risk to the natural environment or wildlife however they are looking at the possibility of skimming the pond to remove the residue to improve the look of the pond.”
